Alex Miller was born in England in 1936 but has lived and written in Australia since he was sixteen, and he has won the prestigious Miles Franklin Award twice. Autumn Laing has as its background the life of Sunday Reed and the artistic community that lived on what was in the 1940s the outskirts of Melbourne.
